The data are provided by the National Bureau of Statistics based on the results of the labor force survey in 2025. In Moldova, the employment rate measures the number of people with jobs as a percentage of the working age population 15 years and older.

Moldova’s employment rate averaged 42.8% from 2000 to 2025, reaching a historical high of 56.7% in the second quarter of 2000 and a record low of 34.3% in the first quarter of 2012.

The paradoxical nature of the labor market is reflected in the declining employment rate and the persistence of a low official unemployment rate against the background of rising nominal wages.

The unemployment rate at the country level amounted to 3.8% with a downward trend. The unemployment rate fell to 2.90% in the fourth quarter of 2025 from 3.50% in the third quarter. But among young people, the rate immediately soars to 7 – 7.4%.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that despite the decline in unemployment, overall activity in the labor market has fallen, indicating that many people are leaving the workforce.
