The law allowing meat market operators in Moldova to import 1.2 thousand tons of frozen pork without paying customs duty was published and entered into force on July 18. As Logos Press previously wrote, the term of this duty-free quota was determined until October 31, 2025. However, the bulk of it was chosen by importers in less than two weeks.
According to representatives of the Association of Patronage of Meat Processing Industries PÎIPC, the quota will be closed by the end of the first week of August. The high demand for imported pork is due to the fact that wholesale buyers – primarily producers of sausages and meat products – have strong doubts about the stable supply of this raw material by local pig farms in the second half of this year.
