Customs attachés will appear in Moldovan embassies abroad

A new position of economic adviser (customs attaché) is being introduced in Moldovan diplomatic missions abroad, Logos Press reported.

The government approved the decision at its meeting today, February 25. The legislation introduces a job description of the customs attaché. It specifies the competent bodies to approve a specialist in this position, as well as the mechanism for determining the goals and assessing his activity.

The job description is approved jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Customs Service. This will ensure that the duties of the new functionaries are in line with the specifics of both the diplomatic and customs services.

The individual objectives and performance evaluation of the Customs attaché are determined by the head of the respective diplomatic mission and the Director of Customs. This ensures a balanced assessment from the point of view of both spheres of activity, the explanatory note to the draft specifies.

One of the conditions for delegating the authority of an advisor to a customs officer is experience of at least five years in the customs field. As well as knowledge of at least one international language. They derive from the duties of promoting and representing customs interests in the country of accreditation, developing cooperation, ensuring the implementation of international agreements, exchanging information and experience, combating cross-border economic crimes, etc.

The accreditation of customs attachés in foreign countries and organizations ensures, on the one hand, direct and permanent communication with international partners, which will contribute to the growth of Moldova’s foreign trade, optimization of activities in the field of combating international illegal trafficking of goods, attraction of large investments.
