In December alone, the National Company for Insurance in Medicine (CNAM) transferred over 30 million lei to pay for such materials used in 11 contracted medical institutions in the country. These latest generation medical devices are paid in addition to the cost of treatment according to the system of classification by diagnostic groups.

The most expensive consumable covered by the compulsory health insurance in December was the self-expanding transcatheter aortic valve system TAVI, used within the Interventional Cardiology program. The procedure was performed at the Institute of Cardiology for patients with severe aortic stenosis, and the cost of one such valve system exceeded half a million lei.

The biggest part of the December funds – 6.2 million lei each – was directed to the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Republican Clinical Hospital “Timofei Mosneaga”. Within the framework of special programs, these institutions provided treatment to 83 patients with severe and complicated diagnoses.

Most of all patients in December – 46 people – received specialized care for acute ischemic stroke under the program “Interventional treatment of acute ischemic stroke”. Such operations were performed at the Institute of Emergency Medicine and the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery.

All surgeries with the use of expensive medical consumables are performed in state medical institutions contracted by the NCCM and are provided free of charge to all insured persons if medically indicated.
