Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban signed the documents on participation in the project, which aims to provide the inhabitants of the region with access to quality water.
The project is part of the Urban Development Program (OPUD), which will start in 2026 and end in 2030.
In the first phase, the German government, through the KfW Development Bank, will provide a grant of 14 million euros, of which 13 million euros will be investments and 1 million euros will be technical assistance.
At present, the Apă Canal water intake station in Vadul lui Voda is one of the main sources of water supply in Moldova: it draws from 190,000 to 200,000 cubic meters of water per day. Thanks to the reconstruction, modern technical solutions will be implemented, which will optimize operational processes and reduce water losses. At the same time, the water quality itself will improve and its throughput capacity will increase.
An assessment mission of the German Development Bank KfW was in Chisinau for several days, analyzing the activities carried out within the project, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Moldovan and German partners on December 13, 2024.
It should be noted that the program is implemented by the Regional Development Agency Center in partnership with the Chisinau City Hall, the Ministry of Infrastructure and regional water supply operators.
