This was announced by the director of the Chisinau airport, Sergiu Spoiale, on air on the Realitatea portal.
According to Spoiale, the expansion includes the construction of about 5,000 square meters of additional space in the departure and waiting halls. Thus, the areas of the arrival and departure terminals will increase by about 20%.
The head of the company specified that the works will be carried out exclusively at the expense of its own funds. The first stage of the reconstruction should be completed in early 2027.
“The expansion of these premises is necessary to improve conditions for passengers. We are not talking about commercial areas or spaces that will then bring profit to the enterprise. We are focused only on passenger comfort,” Sergiu Spoiale noted.
The airport director also emphasized that in parallel with the expansion of the terminal, the modernization of the passenger flow security control equipment will be carried out.
“We intend to upgrade the equipment by purchasing the latest generation scanners as well. Each passenger passing through security control will simply put his luggage without having to take out a laptop, chargers or a bottle of water, he will not have to take out anything at all. This will reduce the time it takes for each passenger to go through security,” explained Sergiu Spoiale.
