This is the first auction for Moldova that includes an energy storage component, which will contribute to increasing the flexibility and reliability of the national energy system, as well as optimizing the electricity generation curve.
The criterion for awarding the contract is the lowest price compared to the ceiling price of 1.44 Moldovan lei/kWh within a total capacity of 170 MW, the Energy Ministry specified. The selected projects will be realized under the “fixed price/variable premium” support scheme.
This auction will contribute to increasing the share of energy from renewable sources by 5.8%, supporting the national target of 30% of energy from renewable sources by 2030. Together with the first 165 MW auction, wind power will cover approximately 11.4% of this target.
The agency estimates that the new investment will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1.4 million tons of CO₂, equivalent to the annual emissions of about 310,000 cars.
