Including crop production increased by 21.3%, livestock production – decreased by 3.4%. In 2025, the share of crop production in the total volume of agricultural production amounted to 74%, and livestock production – 26% (in 2024 – 64% and 36% respectively).
At first glance, the diverging dynamics of the crop and livestock sectors is surprising. Especially since last year the Moldovan crop sector suffered from spring frosts and summer drought. And livestock farming in the country is subsidized – both “per head” of productive animals, and per “kilogram of milk” submitted for industrial processing.
Probably, the contribution to the positive dynamics of crop production was made by a significant increase in prices for many types of products, which compensated for its physical shortfall (due to weather anomalies). Wholesale prices in livestock breeding are growing slowly and do not cover the reduction in production, especially in the “individual sector” – households, micro- and small farms. At the same time, the costs, including the costs of fodder supplied by the crop sector, are steadily increasing.
Crop production
The harvest of 2025 in comparison with its level in the previous year is characterized by an increase in the volume of harvest of the main agricultural crops. Including rape – approximately 3.4 times, sunflower – by 35.7%, cereals and legumes – by 27.1% (including grain legumes – 70.5%, wheat – 33.0%, corn for grain – 19.2%, barley – 11.1%). The harvest of grapes (+13.1%), potatoes (+9.3%), fruits, nuts and berries (+6.0%), vegetables (+5.7%) also increased.
At the same time, the production of melons decreased by 4.7%, and sugar beet – by 19.5%.
In 2025, the main part of the production volume came from agricultural enterprises: oilseeds and sugar beet – more than 95% of the total production volume; rape, cereals and legumes (excluding corn), and sunflower – more than 67.0% of the total volume.
At the same time, more than 80% of the total production of potatoes, melons and vegetables, as well as more than 57% of fruits, nuts and berries, grapes and corn were produced by households and peasant (farm) households, i.e. individuals.
Livestock production
In 2025 compared to 2024, a 5.4% decrease in the production (growing) of animals in live weight was recorded in farms of all categories. At the same time, milk production increased by 5.7% and egg production by 1.4%.
According to the data as of January 1, 2026, compared to the same date last year, agricultural enterprises recorded an increase in the number of livestock – except for pig breeding, where the number of animals decreased by 29.8% (despite the authorities’ statements about the normalization of the situation in the sector after the outbreak of African swine fever in spring 2025). In households, the number of livestock decreased in all types of livestock.
