The maximum grant amount under the AGGRI program “single-handedly” can reach the amount of $1 million and cover up to 50% of the beneficiary’s investment in the business project.
The AGGRI program in Moldova is financed by the World Bank with a budget of $21 million. $6.4 million was allocated to Moldovan agricultural producers during the previous four phases of the program.
Unlike the previous phases, which were mainly focused on livestock farming, this time the emphasis is placed on the development of vegetable growing, berry crops, fruit bushes, cultivation of medicinal and essential oil plants, as well as the industry of processing of these raw materials.
According to representatives of the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, “the new directions have been chosen to stimulate sectors where the development potential is still underutilized”.
The ministry’s management is negotiating with partners to create agri-food hubs and modern markets. “We are considering the concept proposed by our Dutch colleagues and have already signed a memorandum of cooperation. Such centers will allow small producers to pack and process products, which will increase competitiveness in foreign markets,” claims MAIA head Lyudmila Katlabuga.
