A new batch of substandard cookies is not allowed for sale

Another batch of low-quality imported cookies was seized by inspectors of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) before they were sold to retailers. The reason is "the content of trans fats is higher than the permissible norm", Logos Press reports.

According to the agency’s press release, a fairly large batch of goods – more than half a ton – was seized and destroyed. The importing company was sanctioned and will also have to “implement a corrective action plan under the supervision of ANSA”.

The agency reminds that excessive consumption of trans fats is fraught with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, so Moldovan legislation strictly limits the maximum permissible level of trans fats in food products.

The program of monitoring and supervision in the field of safety and quality of food products of non-animal origin envisages for 2026 the selection of 50 samples from commercial batches of goods and their examination for the degree of trans fats content.

At the end of last month, the agency ANSA also reported on the seizure of a large batch of cookies with an excessive content of trans fats before entering the market. The product was then “used as fish feed under the supervision of the agency”.
