
And there are many such contradictory tendencies in the capital, which is confirmed by the data of the National Bureau of Statistics. In January-March 2025, the accrued salary in the organizations of the real sector with four or more employees, as well as in all budgetary institutions located in Chisinau, reached 17046 lei. This is 17% higher than the national average (14567.5 lei). Compared to Q1 2024, wages increased by 1,514.4 lei (9.8%).
The index of turnover in industry increased by 3.1%. At the same time, gross industrial production decreased by 5.6%, due to a 6.6% decrease in the manufacturing industry, as well as in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (-14.7%). While in the extractive industry there was an increase in production (+10.7%).
The average consumer prices in Chisinau municipality increased by 9.6% during the monitored period. Including food products by about 9.0%, non-food products by 3.9% and services to the population by 17.1%.
Investments in fixed assets at the expense of all sources of financing, realized in the reporting period, amounted to 4.6 billion lei, increasing (in comparable prices) by 21.7% as compared to January-March 2024. At the same time, investments in tangible assets amounted to 4.1 billion lei (up by 15.9%), investments in intangible assets reached 0.5 billion lei (up by 2.1 times).
In Q1 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, investments increased in all types of tangible assets: in residential (by 10.7%) and non-residential buildings (3.7%), engineering constructions (1.4%), machinery and equipment (32.4%), vehicles (1.8%) and other tangible assets by 22.4%.
At the same time, the municipality’s construction activity continues to show some decline. The number of building permits issued for construction is decreasing; in January-March 2025, a total of 196 permits were issued, which is 26.3% less than in January-March 2024. At the same time, 169 authorizations were issued for the construction of residential buildings (-25.9%), and only 27 authorizations were received for the construction of non-residential buildings (-29%).
In January-March 2025, 1191 residential premises (apartments and individual residential buildings) with a total area of 92.1 thousand square meters were put into operation in the municipality. Of these, the number of apartments amounted to 1044 (total area of 71.3 thousand square meters), i.e. 87.7% of the total number of commissioned housing. 147 individual residential houses with the area of 20.8 thousand square meters were commissioned. Unfortunately, the statistics does not provide comparison of data on housing commissioning with the 1st quarter of 2024.
At the same time, in January-March 2025 the volume of construction works in Chisinau increased (in comparable prices) by 17,7% compared to January-March 2024. This growth is due to the increase in the volume of works in new construction (+10,7%), capital repair (+52,4%), maintenance and current repair (+12,5%) and other construction works (demolition of buildings, land development before construction, etc.) by 14,2%.
As regards construction objects, there was an increase (in comparable prices) in the volume of construction works performed on erection of non-residential buildings by 29.2%, engineering structures by 65.0% and other works by 14.2%. At the same time, the volume of works in housing construction decreased by 17.2% as compared with January-March 2024.
The volume of cargo transported by road transport enterprises in January-March 2025 amounted to 2048.6 thousand tons, increasing by 1.1% compared to January-March 2024. Public buses and minibuses transported 20.8 million passengers, which is 13.9% more than in the comparable period.
Positive signals are observed in demographic issues. In Q1 2025, the birth rate in the capital increased by 29.1% (2,052 births) compared to Q1 2024, while the number of deaths amounted to 1,609, decreasing by 2.9%. Thus, in January – March 2025, the natural increase in the municipality amounted to 362 people, while in the comparable period of 2024, on the contrary, there was a natural population decline of 152 people.
At the same time, the divorce rate in the municipality outpaces the growth of registered marriages. In January-March 2025, 702 marriages were registered (+4.5%), the number of divorces amounted to 659 (+15.6% compared to the previous year).
