“Approved the Protocol between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the addition to the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on checkpoints across the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border and simplified passage of citizens residing in border areas, it is made on 10.02.2026 in Kiev”, – said the government representative in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Taras Melnychuk.
In accordance with the provisions of this Protocol, the list of international checkpoints across the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border is supplemented with the automobile checkpoint (for automobile passenger and cargo traffic with round-the-clock operation) “Yampol – Coseuti” (after the creation of infrastructure),” the statement said.
The essence of the issue
The construction of the strategic Iampol-Coseuti bridge over the Dniester River, connecting Moldova and Ukraine, is planned to be completed by 2027. The work, which started in 2022, has been suspended, but the parties have confirmed their intention to complete the project, estimated to cost $200 million, to improve regional mobility.
The bridge, about 1.5 km long, will provide a direct corridor between Ukraine and Moldova (bypassing Transnistria) and onward to Romania.
Moldova plans to modernize the road from the bridge to the Chisinau-Soroca highway.
At the moment, financing is still being sought, and the project itself remains critical for both countries.
