World soccer transfer market hits record highs

As follows from the report released by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the largest share of transfers went to English clubs, which spent more than $3 billion to acquire players. Reigning English champion Liverpool spent €483 million on transfers: Alexander Isak from Newcastle cost the Merseysiders €144 million, Florian Wirz from German Bayer 04 – €125 million, and Ugo Ekitike from Eintracht – €95 million.

The top three clubs in England with the biggest spending on new players were Chelsea (€285m) and Arsenal (€255m). Martin Subimendi moved from Spanish Real Sociedad to the Gunners for €70 million, while Joao Pedro from Brighton joined the Aristocrats for almost €64 million.

The second place among the associations was taken by Germany, clubs from this country spent $980 million during the summer transfer campaign. The most expensive was the transfer of Luis Diaz from Liverpool to Bayern Munich for €70 million. Jarell Kwansa and Malik Tillman were acquired by Bayer 04 from Liverpool and PSV (Netherlands) respectively. The cost of both players is identical – €35 million.

The top three are completed by Italian clubs, which during the summer allocated ($950 million). The two most expensive acquisitions were made by Milan, which bought Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea for €37 million and Ardon Yashari – from Brugge (Belgium) for €36 million. “Juventus agreed with Porto on the transfer of Francisco Conceição for €32 million. It should be noted that all of the above amounts are inconclusive, as they do not include bonuses that are stipulated in the contracts of players in case they fulfill certain conditions and then will be additionally rewarded.
