US steps up production of 'strategic pesticide'

These resources are critical to both the defense industry and the agricultural sector because they provide stable food and feed production.

According to White House officials, the executive order gives the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture the authority to enforce contracts and regulate the allocation of materials, services and production capacity needed to ensure the uninterrupted supply of these products. This decision should strengthen national security and prevent risks associated with possible disruptions in supplies from abroad, ukragroconsult wrote.

The White House noted that currently there is only one producer of elemental phosphorus and glyphosate-based herbicides operating in the US, while domestic demand significantly exceeds the current production volumes. If production is reduced or halted, this could lead to serious risks to the country’s defense industry and food security.

Frog Advocates vs.

“Glyphosate is already the most widely used herbicide in the world. It doesn’t need federal protection – it needs scientific oversight,” noted on the website of the conservation organization “SAVE THE FROGS!” – This is the same chemical that the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” The very chemical that has caused tens of thousands of cancer lawsuits to be filed against Bayer/Monsanto. The same chemical that a federal court ruled was improperly approved by the Environmental Protection Agency because it ignored cancer risks and threats to endangered species.”

EU Glyphosate Policy

To say the least, it is ambiguous. At the end of 2023, the European Commission, despite the lack of a qualified majority, extended the glyphosate license until 2033.

Some EU countries (Austria, Luxembourg) are in favor of a complete ban on glyphosate, while others (France, Germany) are in favor of tightening the circulation of this herbicide and banning its use near water bodies.

Many other countries under the influence of the agrarian lobby agree with the need to use glyphosate because of its important role in agrotechnologies of a number of crops.
