Alexandru Munteanu
This was stated by the leader of the party Igor Grosu. “PAS will wait for the Constitutional Court to approve the mandates of deputies and for President Maia Sandu to convene a parliamentary session, and after the formation of parliamentary factions, we will address the head of state with the candidacy of Alexandru Munteanu for the post of prime minister,” Grosu said.
Alexandru Munteanu is the founder of the investment company 4i Capital Partners. It is a private equity firm based in Kiev and manages investments in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. The investment team currently manages the Europe Virgin Fund with significant support from international financial institutions such as the EBRD, the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank and the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets.
“Moldova needs as many trained people with extensive economic experience as possible to lead the efforts to join the EU and develop the economy. We thank Mr. Munteanu with his impressive career for deciding to get involved at a time when the country needs it,” Igor Grosu wrote on his social media page.
In the past, Munteanu managed the Western NIS Investment Fund in Moldova and Ukraine. It was in this capacity that in 2002 he became a member of the State Commission for Reintegration of Moldova, created by decree of President Vladimir Voronin. Its tasks included the development of proposals for changing the legislative framework to accelerate the reintegration process and the formation of a common legal, fiscal, monetary, energy, cultural and educational space, as well as the identification of ways to reduce the negative impact of the consequences of the Transnistrian conflict and to stimulate trust, openness and constructiveness in relations with the Transnistrian region.
Earlier, Vasile Tofan, senior partner of the investment company Horizon Capital and member of the investment committee, who has also lived in Ukraine for a long time, refused a similar proposal from PAS. Adrian Belucel, the President’s Chief of Staff, said, “Mr. Tofan was among the persons considered at the preliminary stage as a candidate for prime minister. However, he informed us that he could not accept the offer for reasons related to his professional commitments.”
