Because of obvious signs of antiquity, customs officers sent the items to the National Museum of History of Ukraine for examination.
The museum specialists determined that the items submitted for examination were authentic samples of the Saltovo-Mayak culture. This is a developed archaeological culture of the VIII-X centuries, which flourished in southern Russia and eastern Ukraine during the Khazar Kaganate and was characterized by multi-ethnicity (Alans, Bulgarians, Khazars, etc.).
Among the seized antiquities were bronze toilet sets, samples of clothing, three brass four-pointed crosses of the Latin type (18th century) and even applied personal seal with engraved initials, which experts attributed to the monuments of sphragistics.
All artifacts were recognized as objects of cultural value. They will be transferred to the Museum Fund of Ukraine.
