Two wrestlers from Moldova became prize-winners of the Junior CE

Greco-Roman wrestlers Ignat Meiko and Vadim Tsarelunga won silver and bronze medals, respectively, at the Youth Olympic Wrestling Championships (U-17) held in Skopje, North Macedonia, Logos Press reported.

Ignat Meiсo, 17, became the vice-champion of Europe among young men in the weight category up to 71 kg. During the tournament he defeated representatives of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece and Russia. In the final fight he lost to Georgian Giorgi Gogelashvili (1:9). In 2023, Meiko won a silver medal at the European Under-15 Championships.

Vadim Tsarelunga won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 45 kg. He was stronger than athletes from Greece, Ukraine, losing only to a representative of Azerbaijan in the 1/4 finals. Despite this, he qualified for the small final (duel for third place), in which he defeated the Russian wrestler Artyom Tkachenko, competing under a neutral flag, with the score 5:2. For the 15-year-old Moldovan athlete, the medal was his debut medal in international competitions.

The prize-winning places of the Moldovan wrestlers allowed the Moldovan national team to rise to the seventh place in the team standings. Athletes from 31 countries take part in the European Championship (U-17).
