Specifically, he said, it involves the complete reduction of Iran’s missile capabilities, launchers and “everything else that goes with them,” as well as the destruction of Iran’s defense industrial base and the elimination of their Navy and Air Force, including anti-aircraft weapons.
Also, according to Trump, the U.S. wants Iran to be prevented from “even approaching nuclear capabilities.”
About this he wrote in his latest post on Truth Social.
And, apparently, the US President believes that these goals are almost achieved.
“We are very close to achieving our goals as we consider winding down our huge military effort in the Middle East against the terrorist regime of Iran,” Trump wrote.
On Friday, however, he ruled out the possibility of a cease-fire agreement with Iran, saying Washington has a clear advantage in the war, reports bbc.com.
The statements came amid US media reports that the US is sending additional forces to the Middle East, which could indicate preparations for a ground operation. Trump himself had previously ruled out such an option.
“I think we won,” Trump told reporters on the lawn outside the White House, standing with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“I don’t want a cease-fire. You know you don’t have cease-fire agreements when you are literally destroying the enemy,” he added, reiterating once again that Iran has no navy, air force, other equipment or leaders left.
Nevertheless, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, causing global oil prices to soar and many merchant ships to be stranded in the Persian Gulf.
But safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in the future should be ensured not by the United States, but by those countries whose economies have a stake in this transportation artery, Trump said.
“The Strait of Hormuz will have to be secured by the countries that use it. That is not the US,” Trump wrote in the same post on Truth Social.
In his view, the U.S. “will assist if requested by those countries. However, it is unlikely to be necessary once we get rid of the Iranian threat.”
