This is stipulated by a draft developed by the Health Ministry, which amends the decree on the establishment of the Transplant Agency. The draft is scheduled to be considered at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, January 28.
At present, the activity of health institutions authorized for organ harvesting and transplantation is mainly concentrated in Chisinau.
The expansion of the network of medical centers is aimed at eliminating the territorial imbalance. The inclusion of district hospitals, according to the developers, will reduce the response time, increase the efficiency of organ harvesting and prevent the loss of potential donors.
The authors of the project note that in order to increase the number of postmortem donors and meet the needs of recipients on waiting lists, it is necessary to expand the number of organ procurement centers throughout the country and unite them into a single coordination network.
In addition, the document provides for the introduction of transplant coordinators in medical institutions. They will be responsible for organizing donation and will interact with the Transplant Agency, which coordinates and monitors at the national level.
The new rules are expected to increase the accessibility of transplantation, improve the quality of medical care and bring the national system closer to European Union standards.
