Transnistria refused EU money

Vadim Krasnoselsky

This was stated by the head of Transnistria at a meeting with the Dutch ambassador to Moldova, Fred Dein. During the dialog, Fred Dein, among other things, touched upon the topic of European financial assistance. This is about 60 million euros, information about which was actively discussed in February and March on all kinds of platforms and in the media. It was said that this was a targeted assistance to the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region to overcome the energy crisis. The Dutch ambassador also mentioned this fact today with a similar comment.

In response, Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that the money, declared as humanitarian aid, was offered to Transnistria on the condition of unconditional shutdown of the Transnistrian industry, which would entail the layoff of tens of thousands of workers and, as a consequence, global social upheaval. “Do you think this is an aid for good or for harm? I initially stated that under such bondage conditions ‘aid’ cannot be accepted,” said Vadim Krasnoselsky.

He said that these funds could certainly be used for good. For example, to avoid an ecological catastrophe. The head of Transnistria informed about the malfunctioning of sewage treatment facilities in Chisinau and other Moldovan cities. Wastewater from there flows directly into the Dniester River. As a result, the pollution of the river by a number of indicators exceeds 200 times. According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, European humanitarian aid could be used to restore and modernize the treatment systems on the Dniester, which are managed by the authorities on the right and left banks of the Dniester.

He once again spoke in favor of resuming the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the “5+2” format, stressing that a working negotiation platform is needed to discuss the current agenda – ecology, economy, law enforcement, security and peace, respect for human rights and freedoms.

Earlier, representatives of the European Union said that the EU is ready to allocate 60 million euros to Transnistria on condition that the agreed steps are fulfilled and the implementation of reforms is continued. It was said that the allocation of this money depended on concrete steps in the field of human rights protection, observance of fundamental freedoms and fair pricing of energy resources.
