The Foreign Ministry proposed to abolish the governmental decision that regulates the activity of trade and economic bureaus within Moldovan diplomatic missions and consulates.
The reform envisages a transition to a unified system of economic diplomacy management under the coordination of the MFA. The ministry explains the need for changes by the duplication of functions between the MFA and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, excessive bureaucracy, difficulties of interagency coordination and limited efficiency of the current model.
The explanatory note to the draft notes that the current mechanism requires parallel selection and reporting procedures, as well as constant coordination between agencies, which reduces the efficiency of decision-making.
The problem of long vacant positions in trade and economic bureaux and difficulties in objectively assessing their performance are also highlighted.
The new model assumes full integration of economic diplomacy into the structure of the MFA with the possibility of attracting both career diplomats and specialized specialists delegated by economic departments.
The project will be considered at the Cabinet meeting on April 15.
