Cornel Triboi, Acting Deputy Head of the Inspector General of Migration, said this at a parliamentary hearing.
He said the countries include Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Tajikistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, as well as Romania.
“These changes complicate the early detection of violations, as the entry to the country is accessible, while violations manifest themselves already at later stages – during the stay or labor activity, in particular through exceeding the permitted period of stay or carrying out labor activity without appropriate permits,” Triboi explained.
He also pointed out the increase in cases of Moldova being used as a transit country for further illegal migration to the European Union:
“In 2025, the number of revocations of residence rights of citizens of a number of African countries increased, especially Sri Lankan citizens against the background of attempts to illegally cross the state border in the direction of the European Union. This indicates that in a number of cases the Republic of Moldova is being used not as a final destination country but as an intermediate stage for illegal migration to the European Union.”
He also pointed out the misuse of the declared purpose of stay, primarily for employment purposes. In 2025, the right to stay was most often revoked due to the termination of the employment relationship between the employer and the foreigner, as well as due to non-compliance with the initial conditions of stay”.
