This is about parking lots for transferring motorists to public transport. They should unload the roads in the city, thereby reducing congestion during peak hours.
As the mayor of the capital Ion Ceban noted, the parking lot in Cekani is designed for 525 cars, the parking lot in Riscanivka is planned for 200 parking spaces, and the parking lots in Buyukani for 250 and 240 spaces.
The project will be implemented in stages, starting this year, according to the results of the tender to be announced in March.
The works will start after its completion. On Cecani, a parking lot will appear at the intersection of Vadul lui Voda and N. Milescu Spătaru streets. Two parking lots in Buiucani will be located on Codrilor and Gidigici streets. In the Riscani sector, Calia Orheului Street has been selected.
In addition, the preparation of sites and documentation for the construction of parking lots on Hincesti highway, Valja Krucii street and Gradina Botanica street is underway.
The lack of a bypass road exacerbates the situation
The infrastructure of Chisinau is designed for 90 thousand cars, while more than 400 thousand cars are registered in the city, and more than half a million cars move around. Transit traffic additionally loads the main arteries and the city center, as most of the state and public institutions are located in the capital.
Besides, in the center of Chisinau all the plots where parking lots could be arranged have been sold. They passed into private hands in 2007 – 2019. The land remained only with the state.
Therefore, as Ion Ceban said, the City Hall will ask the government to give it the plots for the further development of parking lots.
The law is still necessary
The mayor once again reminded about the law, which would regulate this sphere all over the country, especially in the capital, where almost one million people live and work.
“Without a clear legislative framework, we cannot apply effective sanctions, introduce modern management mechanisms and create a functional system similar to those in European cities and countries,” Ion Ceban believes.
Earlier Logos Press reported about the draft Parking Law, which was developed and registered in Parliament by the MAN party late last year and with which the central authorities disagree.
