At the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said that after the winter season, the quality of the roads was different: some sections withstood the load better, others worse.
“Returning from Ukraine, I was impressed by the quality of our roads. At least on the Otaci-Soroca-Bălţi highway section, the pavement meets European standards, including the carriageway, and is well lit. But there are other sections, for example, the highway towards Leuseni – our ‘gateway to Europe’ – which is in bad condition after the winter,” the prime minister said.
“Zero tolerance” to corruption
The prime minister stressed the importance of applying modern technologies in the construction of roads and declared “zero tolerance” to any manifestation of corruption or influence peddling in the implementation of projects.
“I believe that the differences in the quality of roads are partly due to the way different authorities managed the construction. Now we need to get it right, using modern technology,” he added.
Prime Minister also noted the need for timely implementation of works. According to him, the Ministry of Finance has provided additional funds in the treasury in advance, so that the construction and repair of roads would be carried out not in late summer, but in spring, making the most of favorable weather conditions.
Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Volodymyr Bolya said that more than 750 kilometers of national roads were built and put into operation from 2022 to 2025.
“This has significantly improved transportation links between settlements, increased the safety and comfort of traveling on national roads,” Bolya said.
He specified that the new program is focused on maintaining European standards of quality and safety of road traffic.
“The Moldovan government and the Infrastructure Ministry have a clear program for the construction and maintenance of national roads, taking into account the safety of all road users,” the minister concluded.
