According to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, the ministry officially notified the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The agreement was concluded initially for five years, with automatic renewal for subsequent five-year periods. The denunciation takes effect six months after the notification. The agreement expires on July 4, 2026.
The move comes after Parliament denounced the agreement with Russia on cultural centers on November 13, 2025.
The denunciation was initiated in February 2025 at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As the ministry explained, the reason for this was the violation of Moldovan airspace by Russian drones.
The draft denunciation of the agreement was developed by the Ministry of Culture, the authors of which argue that in the current geopolitical situation and the high risk of disinformation, the agreement with the Russian Federation can be used as a tool to promote distorted narratives. And this poses a threat to Moldova’s information security.
Despite the possibility under the agreement for mutual opening of cultural centers, our country did not use its right and the Moldovan cultural center in Russia was not opened.
