The regulation establishing the procedure for the application of tax and customs exemptions was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. The implementation of the project will contribute to the creation of new economic opportunities and improvement of living conditions for about 100,000 people affected by flooding and pollution. At the same time, the funds saved thanks to the benefits can be used for other social and infrastructure priorities in the interests of the capital’s residents. For example, the mayor’s office plans to create new green and recreational areas along the river, which will bring economic benefits in the long term.
The project “Rehabilitation of the Byc River and Flood Protection in Chisinau” includes works to improve storm water management and reconstruction of the river bed along 7.6 km. It is also planned to reconstruct sewerage networks and install water blocking systems to manage flood risks and reduce damage from intense rainfall.
The project is being implemented by the Chisinau City Hall with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Green Climate Fund. It was signed on February 5 this year with the Italian company Idrostudi and is being implemented in partnership with the Moldovan company Sigma Engineering.
The total budget of the project is 21 million euros, of which 4 million euros is a non-refundable grant.
