Earlier, Washington in ultimatum form urged Tehran to make a “deal” with the US within 48 hours or, at the very least, unblock the Strait of Hormuz for navigation. Otherwise, the White House threatened Tehran with new powerful strikes on power plants and other infrastructure to “send Iran back to the Stone Age.”
Tehran called the U.S. statements “arrogant rhetoric and baseless threats,” promising not to change course on military resistance.
Iranian authorities on Monday rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal with the U.S. worked out with the participation of mediators. Iran’s state media quoted officials as saying Tehran insisted that a permanent end to the conflict was needed.
Iran has reportedly prepared its ten-point plan. As Euronews notes with reference to The New York Times, it includes points on guarantees of non-aggression, cessation of Israeli strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon and lifting of sanctions.
In return, Iran promises to open the Strait of Hormuz, but is going to introduce a fee for tankers passing through it.
