Social insurance funds recorded a surplus

In January-February 2026, the social fund's revenues exceeded its expenses by 1,239 billion lei. As a result, the execution of the state social insurance budget was completed with a surplus.

According to the information of the Ministry of Finance on the execution of the national public budget components as of February 28, 2026, the total revenues of the state social insurance budget amounted to 9,952.1 million lei. This is by 3.5 percent or 336.4 million lei more compared to the same period last year.

Of these, almost half (4,780 million lei) are the social insurance’s own revenues. This amount is by 9.7% (423.5 million lei) more compared to the same period last year.

And more than a half or 5,172.1 million lei were transfers from the state budget. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that the Social Fund received 1.7% (87.1 million lei) less money from the state in January-February 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

According to the Finance Ministry’s report, the part of expenses and non-financial assets was realized in the amount of 8.713 billion lei, which is 6.2% (511.3 million lei) more compared to the same period of 2025.

In February 2026, the social insurance budget ended with a surplus of 1, 239 billion lei.
