The financing will be carried out from the funds envisaged in the Law on State Budget for 2025, through transfers to the state social insurance budget. For this purpose, it is planned to allocate about 300 million lei for 297 thousand pupils.
The payments will start on September 4 and will be made within a month. Parents are advised to use the money to buy school supplies, clothes or backpacks. No confirmation of the intended use is required.
“The money will be transferred either to the recipient’s bank card or can be collected at the post office. If the child does not have an IDNP or for other reasons there is no complete and accurate information about the family, parents can personally apply to the territorial social insurance office and submit an application, confirming that there is a schoolchild in the family. This must be done until November 14, 2025,” said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun.
Children studying in grades I-IX, including those who are in family or resident forms of care, in full state care, as well as children who have received temporary protection in the Republic of Moldova, will be eligible for support.
The authorities’ decision to start the payments from September 4 was criticized by a number of politicians and commentators because it coincides with the start of the election campaign for the parliamentary elections, which will be held on September 28, and not with the beginning of the school year.
