There have been reports in the Moldovan press that the largest player on the Moldovan oil products market, Rompetrol Moldova, may be sold next year along with other assets owned by Kazakhstan through the state-owned company KazMunayGas (KMG).
Allegedly, the sale of KazMunayGas assets, including Rompetrol Moldova (which is controlled by KMG International), was planned for 2023-2024 and was included in the privatization plan for 2021-2025.
Rompetrol Moldova said the following when asked by Logos Press.
“In the context of the information published yesterday in the Moldovan press, we ask you to familiarize yourself with the official position of KazMunayGas – the sole shareholder of KMG International (KMGI).
Formation of the Comprehensive Plan for privatization of different assets is a regular practice. The list may include companies from different sectors. This is a standard and lengthy process, within the framework of which many factors are taken into account.
As far as KMGI is concerned, the company is operating in normal mode, meeting production and financial targets. In this regard, we declare that at present no decisions on KMGI privatization are made”.
