Court President Marian Yenake emphasized that, taking into account the protocol of the country’s Central Electoral Bureau and the results of the voting, the judges, in accordance with the Constitution, unanimously confirmed the legality of electing Nicușor Dan as head of state. The decision is final and binding.
Before confirming Nicușor Dan’s mandate, the Romanian Constitutional Court rejected a complaint filed by the leader of the opposition party Alliance for the Unification of Romanians, George Simion, demanding the annulment of the results of the second round of the presidential election.
Earlier, the candidate who lost in the second round said that during the voting there was a “whole mechanism of falsification”, through which the independent candidate for mayor of Bucharest Nicușor Dan was added votes. In particular, he said, there were 1.7 million “dead souls” on the voter lists. In addition, a centralized transportation of voters from Moldova was organized. Simion also claimed that the authorities of at least four countries – France, Poland, Moldova and Spain – had interfered in the presidential election in order for his rival Dan to win.
