In the temporary budget of Chisinau, which came into force on January 2, 2026, 305 million lei is planned for the construction and repair of roads, Logos Press reported.

As soon as the weather permits, the capital’s municipal services will start working on the streets of Chisinau, which were seriously damaged during the winter.

This was announced by Chisinau Mayor General Ion Ceban at an operative meeting of the municipal services. He said that the plan of these works is already ready and the schedule will be published in the nearest future.

Fifteen brigades will be involved in the works at the same time. They will be carried out in two stages: first with cold asphalt, then with hot asphalt, in accordance with special technologies.

The overhaul will be carried out on many streets

Genprimar specified that mostly potholes appeared on those roads that have not been repaired for a long time. “Today we observe damage especially on those roads that were repaired 10-20 years ago,” he noted. – The most serious is, for example, the fact that on an important highway leading to the airport, the asphalt was laid directly on the ground.”

As for the streets repaired in recent years, Ion Ceban assured: “There are no problems on them. And where we applied the “Slurry-seal” method, we managed to preserve the asphalt coating and prolong the service life of the road surface. Such technologies will be applied to other streets during this year, and many others will undergo major repairs”.

Ion Ceban specified that “a number of streets and roads will be repaired this year, including the roads on Munchesti and Meşterul Manole streets”.

There is not enough money

“Since the damage to the road surface this year due to weather conditions is more serious than usual, more money will be needed for repairs than was planned in the budget,” says MAN faction municipal councillor Kornel Pyntya. – I think it will be about three times as much. The municipality will have to reallocate funds earmarked for other projects for this purpose.

The availability of funds also depends on the budget in force in the capital. According to the provisional budget of the Chisinau municipality, under which it lives today, 305 million lei was allocated to the Urban Mobility Department for the construction and repair of roads.

At the same time, the current year’s budget elaborated by the Mayor’s Office, which the Municipal Council has not yet examined due to the existing disagreements, has a higher figure for these purposes.

Thus, 366.1 million lei is earmarked for the project “Development of the urban infrastructure” in the municipality’s budget, which has not been adopted yet. It includes the extension of Mircea cel Batryn boulevard to Bukovina Street, the overhaul of Industrială Street and the reconstruction of Mesajer Street.

The extension of Grenoble Street (15 million lei) and the overhaul of Mesterul Manole Street (50 million lei) are also planned.

It is planned to renovate the bridge on Ismail Street

In the current budget, under which the capital is living at the moment, 4 million lei each is envisaged for the overhaul of Mesajer and Industriale streets. The same repair of V. Lupu Street will cost 10 million lei, of A. Puskin Street – 7 million lei. Pushkin Street – 7 million lei. The overhaul of Mircea cel Batryn Street with the extension of the trolleybus line to Bukovina Street will cost 2 million lei.

For the first time, the municipality’s budget allocated money to start repair works on the bridge on Izmail Street, for which the sum of 10 million lei is envisaged.

According to the temporary budget, the city authorities will allocate 140 million lei for the reconstruction of sidewalks, pedestrian zones and architectural and urban development.
