
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 90.5 thousand non-residents visited Moldova last year – by 33.8% more than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourists (excursionists) also increased strongly, up to 111.8 thousand people. The growth amounted to 22.5%.
The number of citizens of the country who can afford a vacation abroad has also increased slightly. There were 401.8 thousand people (+1.2% compared to 2024).
But, still, the largest share was outbound tourism – 66.5% of total tourist activity, while inbound and domestic tourism accounted for 15% and 18.5%, respectively.
As for the revenues of travel agencies and tour operators, they increased by 11.2% to 5.1 billion lei.
How was the tourists’ money distributed?
The main part of revenues came from trips of Moldovan citizens abroad – 4.8 billion lei (+10.9%), followed by domestic tourism – 234.8 million lei (+10.5%) and visits of foreign citizens to our country – 86.9 million lei (+30.7%).
Among foreign visitors, the majority (95.1%) were one-day excursionists who came mainly for leisure and recreation.
Most of them came from Romania (59.8% of the total) and Italy (24.7%).
The trips of Moldovan residents abroad were almost entirely for recreation and entertainment (99,4%). The most popular destinations were traditionally Turkey, Bulgaria, Egypt, Romania and Greece.
At the same time, the average duration of stay abroad slightly decreased – from 6.4 days in 2024 to 6.1 days in 2025.
Domestic tourism also showed an increase in the number of participants, but the average duration of stay decreased from 11.4 to 9.6 days.
Domestic trips were mainly organized by agencies from Chisinau, followed by companies from the Central and Southern regions.
A total of 2.7 million tourist days were registered in 2025.
