Calea Ferată din Moldova
The information about it was spread by the Ukrainian company “Avtomagistral-South”, which will perform these works.
This year, the Ukrainian company is implementing a project to reconstruct a 42-kilometer section of the R-34 road in partnership with the National Road Administration of Moldova. The parties signed a corresponding contract in 2025.
It envisages widening of the road and reconstruction of the sidewalk, construction of intersections and exits, construction of six bridges, as well as construction of sidewalks, lighting, protective fencing and drainage systems.
The volume of excavation work will exceed 500,000 cubic meters, and the area of cold recycling will be more than 375,000 square meters. It is planned to use more than 100,000 tons of asphalt concrete for pavement construction.
In preparation for the start of the works, “Avtomagistral-South” is creating a new production base near the town of Cahul, not far from the border with Romania. A concrete plant and a soil mixing plant are planned to be located there.
Previously, when working in Moldova, the company used mainly inert materials from Romania. For the first time it is planned to supply crushed stone from Khmelnitsky region for the reconstruction of the R-34 road.
In total, it is planned to supply about 300,000 tons of crushed stone from Ukraine to Moldova.
Moldovan railroaders reported that they have restored ramps for receiving cargoes and provided two locomotives. Also, a test run of a 3,000-ton freight train formed of 32 wagons, 12 of which belong to the Avtomagistral-South company, was successfully completed.
During the tests for the first time modern technologies were applied: video surveillance of the entire transportation process and electronic transfer of documents between stations and locomotive crews. Also, for the first time in the last 10 years, the ramp at Cahul station was rebuilt and full loading and unloading operations were carried out.
The test run was conducted to unload and unload wagons on the repaired overpass of Cahul station, and to assess the condition of the railroad after the passage of a train loaded with such a weight.
It is important to note that such a train can replace up to 100 trucks, which significantly reduces the load on the roads and has a positive impact on the environment.
The results of the test run confirmed the possibility of transporting cargoes up to 3 thousand tons on this section, which opens new perspectives for reassessing the logistic possibilities for transporting similar volumes of cargoes to and from Giurgiulesti port.
The 42-kilometer section of the R-34 road, where reconstruction is planned, runs between the towns of Cahul and Cantemir along the border with Romania.
Earlier it was reported that the builders of the company “Avtomagistral-South” opened the traffic on the bypass road of Vulcanesti, which had been awaited here for half a century, three months ahead of schedule for the finish of 2025.
