As reported by Azertag Pezeshkian thanked Aliyev for his visit to the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan, where he expressed condolences over the death of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Seyyid Ali Khamenei and numerous civilians, as well as his intention to provide humanitarian aid to Iran.
“President Ilham Aliyev once again expressed condolences on the death of numerous civilians during the recent events in Iran. The Azerbaijani leader also emphasized the importance of investigating the incident that took place in Nakhchivan,” the publication notes.
It is specified that the conversation took place at the initiative of the Iranian side.
Meanwhile, cargo transportation between the two countries was resumed. According to Report.az information, since 10:00 Monday, March 9, entry and exit of all types of vehicles for cargo transportation across the Azerbaijan-Iran border, including transit, has been restored. Earlier, on March 5, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan temporarily suspended the movement of cargo transport through the state border with Iran. The decision was taken after a drone attack on Nakhchivan.
Meanwhile, evacuation of foreign citizens from Iran through the territory of Azerbaijan continues. According to Report.az from February 28 to March 9, a total of 1,918 people were evacuated.
Among them 541 citizens of China, 314 – Azerbaijan, 290 – Russia, 173 – Tajikistan, 123 – Pakistan, 57 – Oman, 44 – Italy, 32 – Indonesia, 26 each – Spain and Iran, 18 – Saudi Arabia, 17 – Japan, 16 – France, 14 – Germany, 13 each – Georgia and Hungary, 12 – Uzbekistan.
Also evacuated are citizens of a number of other countries, including Brazil, UK, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Canada, Belgium, Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, Kuwait, Bangladesh, Finland, Croatia, Sweden, India, Cyprus, USA, Australia, Argentina, Egypt and other states.
