This was stated by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu during a program on public television. “This means that we are talking about the real growth of incomes, not only about compensating for price hikes,” the prime minister said.
Many experts immediately pointed out that this statement contradicts logic and previously announced figures. Pensions are indexed annually based on the results of the previous year, and just on the basis of average annual inflation. As the National Bank reported in early February, this figure for 2025 amounted to 6.94%.
Therefore, indexation by 6% does not even compensate for the price increase, let alone any increase in income.
Nevertheless, Alexandru Munteanu specified that the indexation of pensions will be made in April, as usual. The government will officially announce the exact percentage in the nearest future.
The Cabinet of Ministers is also considering taking additional measures to support vulnerable categories of the population.
“We realize that people have had a difficult time in recent years,” said the Prime Minister. – We have not been able to help everyone equally, but we have focused on the most vulnerable and will continue to do so. We will offer additional support measures where it will be possible.
Prime Minister stressed that, although the increase is lower than expected, it is a sign of the beginning of the period of economic stabilization.
“At least now we are talking about real growth,” the Prime Minister noted. – After two years of high inflation, we are starting to bring the system into equilibrium”.
In this context, he said that the Cabinet of Ministers was revising the law on wages in the public sector in order to balance the incomes of employees in the public sector in the near future.
