The agency explains the reasons for its announcement: payments of indexed amounts made in the current year have reached the limit of funds allocated in the state budget for these purposes. It is also announced that the payments will be resumed after an increase in budget allocations. The Ministry of Finance will announce this later.
It is specified that this year indexed amounts are paid to bank depositors, born before 1991 inclusive, as well as to those who have not received the corresponding amounts in previous years. Applications for indexation had to be submitted until December 31, 2025.
The ministry also said that, according to the law No. 1530/2002 on the indexation of citizens’ deposits in Banca de Economii and the government decision No. 290/2023 on the payment of the indexed sum to its depositors, the state budget law for 2026 approved expenditures of 8.0 million lei for this purpose.
According to p. 2 of this decision, the payment of indexed sums shall be made depending on the amount of funds envisaged in the state budget for indexation in the respective year.
The Finance Ministry said that in the period of 2023-2025, the money deposits of citizens were indexed in the amount of 11.8 million lei, 9.8 million lei and 7.3 million lei, respectively, as they applied to post offices.
