Oschadbank demands Hungary to return cars and valuables

Ukrainian Oschadbank has demanded that the Hungarian authorities return the collection vehicles and valuables that were illegally seized. The institution notes that further defense of the rights of Oschadbank of Ukraine in resolving the incident in Hungary will be focused in two directions. The Bank intends to appeal against the decision on restrictive measures regarding the stay in the EU, which were unreasonably imposed on the employees of the collection team by the migration service of Hungary. It will also take legal steps to recover the bank's property.

This was reported by Ukrayinska Pravda with reference to the statement of Oschadbank.

The bank recalled that after the illegal seizure in Hungary on March 5 of seven employees of Oschadbank, two collection vehicles and valuables they were transporting, Ukrainian citizens returned home. But the cars and valuables still remain detained. We are talking about two collection vehicles and valuables worth 40m dollars, 35m euros and 9kg of bank gold.

In Oschadbank emphasize that they are absolutely confident in the legality of their actions. Full information and supporting documents have been submitted to the National Bank of Ukraine. To further confirm its legal position, the bank will turn to one of the leading international companies to conduct an independent audit of the processes and contractual relations between all parties involved in the transportation of funds and valuables.

What preceded it

On the night of March 6, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga said that Hungarian authorities had taken seven Ukrainian citizens, employees of Oschadbank, hostage in Budapest and stolen money and valuables.

Budapest later showed a photo of the confiscated valuables and said that it was investigating “money laundering” and that the detained collectors were going to be expelled from the country.

On the evening of March 6, seven Ukrainian collectors returned to Ukraine.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Ukrainian banks had problems with cash currency after the detention of the collectors. According to Ukrainian mass media, in connection with the situation, the regulator announced that on March 9 it would organize the exchange of non-cash funds for cash – so that the stocks in cash offices would meet the demand. The NBU assured that the available foreign exchange reserves are quite sufficient to ensure stability in this market.
