
The labor force (active population aged 15 and over) decreased by 9.9% over the year, amounting to 807.9 thousand people employed in the national economy or looking for a job. The labor force in relation to the rest of the population is thus less than half of people of the same age (participation rate of 41%), declining in annual terms.
As with the economically active population, total employment and unemployment fell in the first quarter. Official statistics, based on household survey data, record about 772,700 people employed in the national economy, down 9.8% from the first quarter of 2024. The employment rate is 39.1% (- 3.8 p.p.) compared to the corresponding period of the previous year (42.9% in the first quarter of 2024).
The unemployment rate at the country level was 4.4%. The estimated number of the unemployed according to the ILO definition amounted to about 35.2 thousand people (-4.5 thousand people). The predominant part of the unemployed and economically passive are young people. The highest unemployment rate is registered among people aged 15-24 (12.8%).
