Nine medals of track and field athletes in Slovenia

Moldovan athletes won three gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the European Athletics Team Championships among the national teams of the third division, held in Maribor (Slovenia), Logos Press reports.

Nine medals of track and field athletes in Slovenia

Alexandra Emelyanova was the best in the discus throw, Andrea Stavila in the 3.000 m steeplechase and Andrian Mardare in the javelin throw (see results in the table). Emelyanova also won a silver medal in the shot put. Erna Gunnarsdottir of Iceland pushed the shot put 25 cm farther than the Moldovan athlete.

The second silver medal in the hammer throw was brought by Serghei Margiev. The best result in the discipline was demonstrated by the Icelander Hilmar Jonsson, who threw the projectile more than 3 meters farther than the Moldovan athlete. The bronze medalists were Caterina Cernat (5,000m race), Ivan Galusco (400m race), Alexandru Mazur (shot put) and Maxim Reileanu (5,000m race).

The Moldovan team at the European Team Championships was represented by 28 athletes (14 athletes each in women’s and men’s events). A total of 394 athletes from 15 countries took part in the competition.

The third European division of track and field athletics, apart from Moldova, includes Albania, Andorra, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, San Marino, Northern Macedonia and Montenegro.
