Munteanu: “We need long-term investments that bring technology with them”

Referring to the priorities in the economy, the candidate noted that one of the main tasks will be to launch investments. As he stated earlier, it is necessary to move from a consumer economy to an investment-based economy.

“We need long-term foreign investments, which will bring technology at the same time,” Munteanu said.

According to him, the closest way to attract foreign investments is through Bucharest, as it is through Romania that international and multinational companies come. At the same time, he emphasized that the country needs domestic investments as well:

“Practice shows, and I judge from my own experience, that it is much easier to attract investments when you work with those who are already present in the country. I have already started discussions with chambers of commerce, with the Association of European Businesses – we have many successful examples”.

Munteanu also touched upon the topic of infrastructure projects. The development of modern infrastructure, he emphasized, is crucial for improving the quality of life of citizens and economic competitiveness. The government intends to invest in roads and bridges, railroads, airport infrastructure.

In particular, it is about expanding the airport capacity, as today “the Chisinau International Airport has reached its maximum capacity”, as well as unlocking the potential of the Giurgiulesti port, in order to ensure a stable traffic flow “in conditions when the ports of Nikolaev and Odessa are inaccessible”.

Munteanu also touched upon the topic of territorial-administrative reform.

“Perhaps the enlargement of mayoralties infringes on the interests of some representatives of local authorities, but this reform is necessary. The main thing is to ensure access to quality education and quality medical services. The reform should be carefully prepared,” he emphasized.

The candidate said that the government will soon discuss the draft budget for 2026.

Munteanu described the period that passed after he received the proposal to run for prime minister as “ten days that shook my life”:

“After that, active discussions with future members of the team started. I did not hear a single refusal. Even if someone was temporarily unavailable, everyone expressed full readiness to support and help”.

Asked why there are only four women in the cabinet, Munteanu said:

“There is no catastrophe in this. In France, for example, there has never been a female prime minister or a female president. On the contrary, we are making progress in this direction.
