The department reports that since April 9, recipients can receive on bank cards or in post offices compensation for the last month of the cold season – March.
“Thanks to the “Help at the Meter” compensation program, we managed to support more than half of the country’s population. We are now focusing on sustainable solutions that reduce energy vulnerability, from insulating homes to replacing outdated equipment, so that people pay less in the long term,” said Labor and Social Protection Minister Natalia Plougarou.
The total budget allocated by the government for this season amounted to 2.34 billion lei. The funds were allocated exclusively from the state budget.
The program envisaged support during the cold season, first of all, for vulnerable groups, including pensioners, children, youth and people with disabilities. The beneficiaries include more than 402 thousand pensioners, about 353 thousand children and youth, as well as 23 thousand people with disabilities.
During the cold season, the average compensation amounted to 750 lei and varied depending on the heating source. More than half of the beneficiaries received the maximum compensation: 800 lei for solid fuel and 1,000 for other heating sources. At the same time, despite the decrease in natural gas prices and the heat tariff of Termoelectrica, the government decided to keep the amount of compensations unchanged. Thus, citizens received the same amounts as in November.
The Meter Aid program is technically supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Italian Government.
