“MONOCROM” enriched the palette of artists

In the graphic art exhibition "MONOCROM" at the Organ Hall Gallery, students of the A. Plamediale College of Art invite viewers to focus on meaning, form and composition, rather than on color diversity as usual. The exhibition shows that monochromy does not limit artists at all, but on the contrary, gives them the opportunity to use a rich palette of tones and shades, focusing on the technical methods of working with line and spot.

The austerity of monochrome became a good space for artistic experimentation and reflection of young authors. This is the first exhibition of the final year students – 16 people, which the management will try to make traditional.

Thanks to curators Vasily Sitar and Cornelia Bulat, the work of the young generation of artists was presented in a holistic and deep visual dialog.

Cornelius Bulat, graphic art teacher at the A. Plamediale Art College, deputy director for creative part, noted that the guys worked in color, which they prefer. And the impact of monochrome graphics can be compared to good black-and-white films or black-and-white photography: it is very easy to convey emotions and moods through color, but try to express them in black-and-white!

The lecturer emphasized that today’s art students demonstrate a mature perception of the world. Their work is characterized by the ability to see deeper than superficial objects, noticing hidden nuances, light, texture and emotional components. And technologies in graphics have been developing rapidly in recent years, there is a kind of symbiosis between traditional graphics and innovations, thanks to which unexpected things appear.

Evgeny Revenko presented two etchings and a watercolor. “The exhibition is a very interesting experience for us, we have not yet exhibited in the gallery of the Organ Hall, I personally, for example. Graphics attracts me, first of all, the way of transmission – through lines, layers, through colors that can be combined with each other. And the difference of textures allows you to express the whole multifaceted feeling of the world.”

The opening of the exhibition was attended by the famous Moldovan graphic artist, art professor Alexei Colybniac, who has made a great contribution to the training of new generations of creative elite in Moldova. “It is of great importance that our small country has a special art education supported by the state,” he said. – And the guys have confirmed that the state does not waste money. Many of their works could well participate in any European-level exhibition and look worthy”.

Alexei Kolybnyak suggests that the young think about the commercial side of art. Organize, for example, an exhibition-sale in a store that has the appropriate license. Let a couple of works out of a hundred be sold, but retail outlets have a large flow of visitors. And the gallery of the Organ Hall is mainly for concert-goers, which is also very good. But even now the poster could say something like this: “The exhibited works can be purchased from the authors”.

Alexey Kolybnyak is very concerned about the situation in art education. “From next year, higher education is being reduced to three years. Now it can be obtained in two levels: licentiate four years and master – one and a half. The total is five and a half. The reform assumes for the first level three years, the second – two. This means six months of savings for the budget. In addition, we have lost half of the specialists in recent years.

In the Age of Enlightenment, the prominent French philosopher-enlightener Denis Diderot said that a nation that teaches its children to draw as much as to count, read and write will surpass all other nations in the sciences, arts and crafts.

And this thought sounds so relevant and true today that no one dares to dispute it. Of course, not all children will become painters, sculptors. But the time when they can freely create, when the aesthetic worldview is formed, is very limited. Only in childhood, visual activity is the leading line of personal development. Through it perceives and reflects the surrounding world and his attitude to it.

The exhibition is open until February 18
