Within the framework of the International Forum “Heritage and Architecture: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future”, held under the aegis of the European Heritage Days, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan met with the architect Thorsten Kock, representative of the German bureau Bez+Kock Architekten, winner of the international competition for the best solutions for the reconstruction of the Philharmonic Hall.
27 architectural teams from 13 countries took part in the Philharmonic Revitalization competition, which took place between 2021 and 2023. According to the international jury, the best conceptual solution was proposed by the German bureau Bez+Kock Architekten.
During the conversation between the Minister of Culture and the representative of the architectural bureau, the prospects of the project’s development and concrete steps for its realization were discussed.
Negotiations are currently underway with the European Investment Bank to provide a soft loan for the feasibility study and subsequent design stages. The Philharmonic Hall reconstruction is included in the Development Plan of the Republic of Moldova.
“The reconstruction of the National Philharmonic is one of the most important cultural projects of the Republic of Moldova. We need an instrumental hall with exceptional acoustic properties and a modern building worthy of the values we profess. There is no point in rushing: it is more important to build thoroughly and sustainably, with reliable partners and responsible financing,” Sergiu Prodan said.
Earlier he said that he hopes to hold the first symphonic concert in the new Philharmonic building in 2030.
