Moldovan statistics recognized as advanced

According to the latest ODIN assessment conducted by the non-governmental organization Open Data Watch, the Moldovan statistical system ranked 18th in the world (out of 198 countries) and 3rd among Eastern European countries. The world ranking is headed by Malaysia, Singapore and Finland.

Such countries as the Netherlands, Germany, Latvia, USA, Canada and Hungary received scores close to those of Moldova. From the Eastern European space only Poland and Romania are ahead.

ODIN is a global tool that systematically assesses the level of data dissemination and comparability across publicly available platforms. The assessment also took into account datasets from specific domains available on the websites of other producers of official statistics – resources of central executive authorities and the National Bank.

The country’s progress is marked by the openness indicator. This criterion assesses aspects such as editable format, availability of metadata, possibility to export data and absence of barriers to access. According to ODIN, data are considered open if they can be freely accessed, reused, modified and disseminated by anyone, while respecting the requirement to indicate the source.

There is growth in the data availability section as well. This criterion analyzes the availability and coverage of statistical indicators in the social, economic and environmental domains, including the availability of time series and relevant breakdowns (e.g. by gender, age group, territorial dimension).
