The Moldovan crew covered the 2,000 meters distance in 7 minutes 3.99 seconds. The gap from the Georgian tandem of David Lashkareishvili – Giorgi Kanteladze, who won silver medals, exceeded 3 seconds (6 minutes 59.12 seconds). At the same time, Naumchuk and Zinchenko were second in the preliminary heat, one second ahead of the Georgian representatives.

Four crews took part in the final heat. The winners were brothers Maximilian and Alexander Aigner (Germany), who showed a time of 6 minutes 54.71 seconds. Armen Khalajyan and Armen Kosyan (Armenia) were the last to cross the finish line, more than 25 seconds behind their Moldovan rivals (7:30.31).
