On Wednesday, March 4, the parliamentary commission on foreign policy gave a positive conclusion to the projects of denunciation of the Minsk agreement on the establishment of the CIS, its protocol, as well as the CIS Statute.
Thus, Moldova started the procedures of final withdrawal from the statutory bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
At the same time, bilateral and multilateral relations with the CIS states will be maintained, and Moldova will remain a party to a number of agreements in the trade, economic and social sectors.
The denunciation was initiated by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which notes that fundamental CIS principles, including mutual recognition of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, “are not respected.
“The denunciation of the agreements is also a natural step on Moldova’s path towards integration into the European Union,” the MPs said.
So far, Moldova has already denounced about 70 agreements with the CIS.
It is worth mentioning that 56.4 million lei is earmarked for the payment of Moldova’s membership fees to 56 international organizations for 2026, which is 2.4 million lei (4.4 per cent) more than in 2025 and 5.4 million lei (10.7 per cent) more than the actually executed expenses for 2025.
As Logos Press previously wrote, the most “costly” organizations are the Council of Europe (10.6 million lei per year), the UN (6 million lei) and the UNDP (almost 5 million lei, the Danube Commission (3.5 million lei).
