According to Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu, the Isaccea-Vulcanesti line is 52 km long, of which 40 km pass through Ukraine and 4 km through Romania. It is a priority line for the Republic of Moldova and is operated by Moldelectrica. Its maintenance works are carried out on the basis of a cooperation agreement. After its rehabilitation, the Ministry of Energy will reimburse the reconstruction costs.

According to the minister, the issue is about the breakage of the conductor. The support withstood the attacks, but it is a very important structure: “Colleagues from Ukrenergo will make every effort to repair it,” said Jungietu.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu confirmed that the technical works will be carried out by the Ukrainian side.

“From what I know and what I discussed today with the Ukrainian side at the highest level, they are taking part of the efforts to launch and restore this line. But the line and all the devices there belong to us, so we also have the responsibility to invest in their restoration. We almost immediately offered to help the Ukrainian side to support them, but we were told they had enough brigades deployed. The problem is that the attacks continue and new ones are expected,” – said the Prime Minister.

We shall remind you that the Isaccea-Vulcanesti overhead power line (400 kV), one of the key elements of Moldova’s energy system and an important channel of communication with the European energy network, was disconnected in the south of Ukraine. According to state-owned Moldelectrica, the outage occurred after drone strikes near the energy infrastructure

The National Crisis Management Center said that the duration of the restoration work will be known after the completion of demining at the site.

President Maia Sandu appealed to citizens in the wake of the events to “stand in solidarity, understand the gravity of the situation and show resilience.”

“Save resources, spread messages only from official sources, be united and dignified. Even though Russia wants to see us weak, it is up to us to remain strong and preserve Moldova’s dignity”.
