The project will be officially launched on January 12, 2026 in Braila, Romania. Project BSB00927 – ISTROS (“Enhancing Biodiversity Protection across Borders”) is implemented within the framework of the EU Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program. It will last until March 2028. The total cost of the project is €1,276,039, of which 90% is provided from non-repayable EU funds and 10% is co-financed by partners.
The project brings together four partners from the Black Sea region: Inspectorate of Police and Institute of the Prefect of Braila County (Romania); Izmail Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine; National Inspectorate of Public Security of the Inspectorate General of Police of the Republic of Moldova.
The aim of the project is to strengthen law enforcement capabilities to prevent poaching and illegal fishing in the Black Sea basin, preserve the unique ecosystems of the region and enhance transboundary cooperation. Within the framework of the project, the partner countries are developing a “Manual of Best Practices”, conducting joint exercises, information campaigns and purchasing specialized equipment for field work.
