Moldova to benefit from possible US tariff cuts – EBRD

Moldova is among the countries that will benefit from the reduction of US trade duties, Beata Javorczyk, chief economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), told AFP news agency, Logos Press reported.

Last year, Moldova was included in the Trump administration’s list of countries with higher trade duties of 25 percent.

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down most of President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, forcing him to impose a new 10 percent duty under a separate law. A day later, he promised to raise duties to 15%, adding to uncertainty in international markets.

But for the countries where the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development operates, these developments will bring only “very limited” changes, EBRD chief economist Beata Jaworczyk told AFP.

“The impact of the US duties on the countries where we operate has been limited, much less than expected,” Jaworczyk said. And she added: “There are some countries that may benefit from tariff reductions, such as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Tunisia, but overall the situation remains unchanged.”

Moldovan exports to the U.S. in 2025 totaled $49.8 million, down 55 percent from 2024. The sharp decline in shipments began after August 1, when 25% duties on imported Moldovan-made products came into force.
